The News - 09.18.14

Hello again, Parents and Gamers!

We hope you all are having a pleasant day. Today is going to be relatively easy as we have two things we will be looking at. Starting off, we will take a look at the Sony PlayStation and the roll out of the "PlayStation Now" Beta Testing. After that, we will have a quick follow up regarding Minecraft and when it will be released on the PlayStation 4. Let's take a look!

Back in January, in response to many people wanting backwards compatibility on systems like the Playstation 4, Sony announced an interesting program called PlayStation Now.

The idea behind this program is similar to Netflix meets Sony video games in that, so long as you have a solid internet connection, you are able to access and play a wealth of different games directly from the Cloud via the Internet. This way, you would be able to play PlayStation 3 titles on PlayStation 4 as well would not require a live disc, you simply stream it straight to your system like you might a youtube video.

Well, the open beta (a means of publicly testing the program) starting at the beginning of August for PlayStation 4 users and, since then, has been receiving mixed opinions. On the one side, players have access to 150 titles and growing. Examples include God of War: Ascenion, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and more. On the other side, players are running into contention regarding a mixed bag of prices which often seem a bit high for certain titles.

Now, as part of this open beta, players on the PlayStation 3 will now have access to PlayStation Now. This will allow PlayStation 3 players greater access to digital content so, if they don't desire to purchase a live product, they are able to do so through the internet on their system.

Two weeks ago, we announced the upcoming release of the Xbox One version of Minecraft. At that time, Sony had not yet announced the release date for the PlayStation 4 retail version and, in turn, I had a number of e-mails come in asking when we would see it.

Well PlayStation 4 owners, your time has come. Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft will be coming out in a few short weeks on October 7. However, if you can't wait, the digital version of the game is available right now online. All you have to do is hop onto the PlayStation Store through your PlayStation 4 and purchase it digitally to your system. Both versions will allow you to transfer any saved data or worlds that you have from your PlayStation 3 version of the game to its new home on PlayStation 4.

Much like the other versions, Minecraft will only go for $19.99 or $5 digitally if you already own Minecraft on PS3.
