Minecraft

Minecraft Review

      Kid Safe: Very High (9.5 / 10)    Game Quality: High (8.0 / 10)

Genre: Open World Creative
-          As an Open World Creative title, players are immersed in a large, open environment that they are able to explore and make their own. They are able to use a number of items in-game to create absolutely anything in their imagination. I like to compare the title to being in a virtual Lego world.

Internet Requirements: None to Very High
-          The internet requirements of this title are very heavily dependent on what video game system you are playing it on and how you want to play. If you are playing on a PC / Computer, you must have internet in order to download the game as well as any additional content you might wish to have. If you are playing on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, or PlayStation 4, you can purchase a retail copy of the disc or purchase and download it via the online store for your respective system; however any additional content must be purchased online for either version of the game. Players can also play the game single player offline without needing an internet connection, however we encourage players to enjoy this open world together via the internet, as more hands and minds build many fun things.

Story Summary:
-          To the best that we've ever identified, Minecraft does not have a single specific story. The game, instead, encourages creativity and the creation of your own legacy. Stranded on a desert beach in a vast world with nothing but your own two hands and your creativity, what will you do...?

Kid Safe: Very High (9.5 / 10)

-          Foul Language: None
o   Minecraft does not contain any observable usage of foul language. Players, characters, monsters, and creatures in-game do not speak but instead make very grunts, groans, and other non-lingual sounds.

o   Special Note: While playing online, players have a chat option available to them. Use discretion while letting your player online as they are able to send and receive foul language via the chat function.

-          Violence and Gore: Very Low
o   Minecraft contains a very limited amount of violence and no observable amounts of blood or gore. During the game, monsters like Zombies and Skeletons will come out at nighttime in order to attack the player if they are not sheltered from the elements. Players can defend themselves using crafted weapons such as swords or bow and arrows. When a player attacks these monsters, it's almost comparable to a Nerf baseball bat. The monster will essentially bounce off of the attack and, after several attacks, fall over and poof into smoke. Additionally, players can use these same weapons against non-enemies like farm animals in order to harvest meat for food. In the same manner, the creatures will bounce backward several times before falling over and poofing into smoke.

-          Sexually-Related Content: None
o   Minecraft does not contain any observable amount of sexually related content.

-          Use of Drugs and Alcohol: None
o   Minecraft does not contain any observable amount of drug or alcohol usage.

o   Special Note: The PC / Computer version has a number of third-party modifications that players are able to download and install in order to add new items to the original version of Minecraft. While some modifications can be fun, it should be noted that it is highly likely that some third party's may have added drug or alcohol related items. These do not reflect the original game design by rather the creation of a secondary programmer.

Game Quality:  High (8.0 / 10)

-          Graphics / Visuals: Moderate
o   The Graphics and Visuals were something we had to ponder long and hard on how to review. The game itself does not like very graphically impressive compared to many modern-day titles that are on the video game market. However, to the developer's credits, the look and design is intentional, rather than from poor graphical design.

o   While the overall resolution may look unimpressive, the game was designed to be made up of "blocks", like virtual Legos. Whether it was the land, air, water, animals, people, etc...everything was built with this blocky design to coincide with the game play. It, in turn, allows players to pick up those different blocks and use them for whatever purpose they saw fit. Whether they want to build a castle, dig a hole, mine precious ores, fight monsters, or more, everything was created with this unique and simple visual style to make it coalesce.

o   On a secondary note, another reason that the game is "moderate" is because a large number of different modifications exist for every system to change the visual appearance of the game. The severity of the change depends entirely on the modification, however players are able to find, purchase, and/or download programs to perhaps give it a more realistic look, to add high texture quality, and even to change the appearance of creatures and players. Given the wide range of possibilities, we did not feel we could accurately represent and rate all of the options.

-          Audio: High
o   Minecraft features a simple but enjoyable audio experience. The game has a number of gentle instrumental pieces that play along quietly in the background of the game, filling in the quiet of wandering a deserted world. Additionally, the game features musical cues when players are near or around important areas such as underground "Fortresses" that alert them just in case they weren't aware they were near one of these treasure-troves. Monsters all have simplistic but recognizable sounds like the Creeper's "hiss" and the Zombie's "moan". While the game does not feature some over the top soundtrack accompanied with AAA voice actors, the game does exactly what it meant to do: provide simple and memorable audio to a simplistically enjoyable game design.

-          Gameplay / Playability: High
o   Minecraft features a High level of Gameplay and Playability that suffer only a little due to the lack of a physical tutorial. Interestingly enough, we had to go back and do further research regarding this because it turns out that Minecraft actually has different WAYS to play the game depending on whether you are playing on the PC / Computer or on a video game console like the Xbox or PlayStation.

o   So, regarding the tutorial, the game does exactly what we mentioned earlier: drops you on a desert island without any instructions or ideas on how to survive. The game offers an "Achievement" system in all versions that hint at an idea of what you should do, however no direct instructions as to how. Discovering is half the battle. Luckily, many people will figure out how to break apart trees and dirt and sand in the game and use them to their advantage. However, the question is raised "What do I do with these items?" Even better, the Xbox and PlayStation allow players to take craftable blocks and simply craft them by clicking on the item that they want to create. In the PC / Computer version, however, players need to know where to place certain items on a grid interface in order to create anything. So, sadly, Minecraft suffers from a lot of "How the heck do I do this?"

o   On the flipside, however, that's where the gameplay issues really stop. Once you know how to survive nighttime (trust me, it's a big problem on the first night or two) the world is your oyster. You are limited only by your imagination. Do you want to create a castle? Why not. Heck, make it a floating castle in the sky. With a rollercoaster. That goes underwater. And takes you through the underworld. And stops at your second upside down castle. That your friend has rigged with explosives so that when you hit the doorbell everything within 300 blocks explodes. Again, it's pretty much a Virtual Lego world. If you can dream it, you can do it.

-          Dollar-Value: Very High
o   As you might have guessed, Minecraft, due to its intense openness and availability, has an incredibly high dollar value. Ranging between $20 to $30 dollars, players will gain an exorbitant amount of replay-ability and fun. As we said before, the game is only limited by your imagination. I myself clocked almost 50 hours of gameplay just in the last week. During that time I created an underwater base with a functional airlock that has a greeenhouse inside that lets me grow wheat IN my underwater base. Oh, did I mention that I also had a mine where I found a massive abandoned fortress with treasures chests full of diamonds and gold? And that was me playing alone! So, if you have someone who likes being creative and has a strong imagination, this game is perfect for them.

Recommendations
-          Minecraft is truly one of a kind, however if you are looking for more creative titles, I would highly recommend a Minecraft-inspired game called "Terraria".

Minecraft (Old Version)

Minecraft Review

Kid Safe: Very High                     Game Quality: High

Genre: Open-World Creative
-          This game is identified by players having the ability to truly go anywhere and do anything in a massive open world. Players then have the ability to manipulate everything in that world in order to create anything that their heart desires.

Internet Requirements: Moderate
-          This game requires the internet in order to purchase and download this game. From there, individuals are able to play with others through a direct connection via the internet to another player's computer.

Story Summary: Minecraft, to the best of our knowledge, does not have a story; with players always
starting on a beach in a randomly created world. This may change as this title has yet to be finished.

Kid Safe: Very High
-          Foul Language: Very Low
o   Minecraft does not contain any observed instances of foul language.

-          Violence and Gore: Low
o   Minecraft features a low amount of violence with no notable amount of gore. In Minecraft, players are able to pick up and use any "block" or item in the world to attack animals and enemies with. Animals stated are pigs, cows, chickens, and octopi in order to obtain usable items like porkchops, leather, and eggs. Enemies are "zombies" (green humanoids), skeletons, and "creepers" (a speckled creature that explodes). Players are able to create and use weapons in the form of swords and bow-and-arrows.

-          Sexually-Related Content: Very Low
o   Minecraft does not contain any form of sexually-related content.

-          Use of Drugs and Alcohol: Very Low
o   Minecraft does not contain any usage of drugs or alcohol.

Game Quality: Moderate
-          Graphics / Visuals: Moderate
o   Minecraft features a moderate quality of initial graphics and visuals, with particular in the realm of resolution. The world that players adventure through is made out of randomly generated "blocks" of different material that make up everything from sand and gravel to trees and water, dirt and stone to gold and diamonds. These different types blocks, however, suffer from extremely poor resolution and graphical quality that makes them harsh to look at and, initially, difficult to differentiate. Everything has a very angular appearance that lacks realistic quality.

o   Based on the above statement, you might wonder just HOW Minecraft qualifies for a Moderate quality of visuals. The reason for this is twofold. The first is because every world, when a player first enters it, is completely randomly generated; meaning that everything from the bottom of the earth to high in the sky is randomly created when you first step foot into it. Likewise, this consists of everything from sprawling foothills and jagged mountains, flowing streams to massive oceans, even massive caves and hidden mines, deep inside the world, littered with veins of precious minerals. Every experience is different and, should players be able to full explore the world, they will find each one unique and fascinating in its own way.

o   Now, the second reason that Minecraft retains a moderate rating is because it allows players to modify the world's appearance. While the initially graphics can be a little rough on the eyes, the minecraft website features a collection of "Texture Packs" and "Mods" that will change the visual appearance of the video game; essentially allowing players to increase the graphical presentation to something they like better. As the game is not finished, this also suggested that the finished product may feature a higher quality presentation.

-          Audio: Low
o   Minecraft suffers from a low audio quality. The reason for this rating is due to the fact that, as the title stands right now, Minecraft features incredibly little audio. Each monster and animal has only one or two unique noises; probably the most memorable being a hissing sound from the "creeper" monster. Likewise, the gameplay features almost no background music on the exception of the uncommon, and completely random, moments that it will spontaneously play a gentle tune for a minute or so. While these sounds do not really detract from the gameplay, they do little to add to it either. We can only hope that more will be added later on.

-          Gameplay / Playability: High
o   Minecraft features a high level of gameplay and playability. To start with the negative, this game features one over-arching problem that is, once again, most likely due to the fact that the game is still in production and not a finished product. If you are not playing with someone who has already played this game, there is a high chance you will be extremely lost, frustrated, and confused. While players are able to collect different blocks and craft them together to form new items, the game does not feature any information on how to craft or what blocks create what items. While combining said blocks is incredibly easy (once you know what you are doing), I had to be instructed and look up on the internet on how to create just about anything. Likewise, new players will also quickly meet frustration when day turns to night and, not having realized that they needed to build a shelter, they are mauled by nocturnal monsters.

o   So, with all of these playability problems does Minecraft still retain a high level of gameplay. Once again, it boils down to the gameplay itself. While new players, lacking knowledge on how to interact in the world, may become frustrated; individuals who have had some time to experiment are able to do truly anything with this game. It is quite literally like walking through a world of lego blocks. Perhaps you would like to create a house; sure, go ahead. While you're at it, why not a castle? Heck, why not a floating pyramid? Building not your thing, why not explore the caves and the depths of the earth fighting monsters and creatures of the deep that dwell in underground dungeons; collecting vast riches as you go. Don't feel like fighting monsters? That's ok, you can connect with other players and either build or even battle THEM with literally no difference from the single player mode; the world is just as huge. We have seen this game been used to create massive machines and musical scores; I can't wait to see what will happen next.

-          Dollar-Value: Very High
o   Minecraft seems to have a high dollar value, especially due to the amount that can be done with this title. As I would normally quote an average length of gameplay, I cannot for this title since the game is completely dependent on what a player decides to do with it. Playing with several friends, I dedicated more than 50 hours of gameplay to the testing phase of this title; phenomenally more than most other titles on this site. We experimented with building, exploring, mining, and even battling each-other by creating opposing bases in different parts of the world and striking against each other.

o   Aside from the gameplay options, Minecraft features two options. First, you are able to play a version of this game for completely free; this version allowing you the option to build and construct anything that you would like. However, if you purchase the paid-for version, you will have the opportunity to enjoy that along with everything else that I have mentioned already (multiplayer with other players, exploring of dungeons and caves, and fighting monsters and obtaining riches, etc.). Minecraft only runs for 9.95 Euros, or roughly $15.00 USD; not too bad given the amount of gameplay we have gotten out of it.

Recommendations
-          As this game is highly kid-friendly, I cannot think of any other title to recommend. Likewise, as this title is invariably unique in its design, no other game truly matches its ability to create and interact with the world around you. The closest might be Little Big Planet for Playstation 3, but even that seems a big stretched in comparison.

Little Big Planet 2

Little Big Planet 2 Review

Kid Safe: Very High                     Game Quality: Very High

Genre: Creative Platformer
-          Players then have the ability to manipulate everything in that world in order to create anything that their heart desires. The character operates on a mostly two-dimensional environment, i.e. restrained to up, down, left, and right; in which they most often will run to the right-side of the screen and avoid obstacles and solve puzzles in order to get to the completion of the level/game.

Internet Requirements:Moderate
-          Little Big Planet 2 can be played and completely enjoyed without the usage of the internet, however we fully recommend its use as this title features over 2 million other player-created levels that can be downloaded for play.

Story Summary: In Little Big Planet 2, you take the role of a SackPerson, a plushie doll of non-descript
origin (as that is up to you to decide) who is living in CraftWorld. One day, without warning, CraftWorld is attacked by the evil Negativitron, a massive, robotic monster that is out to destroy everything in CraftWorld. Joining forces with "The Alliance", a group of other members of CraftWorld, you adventure through CraftWorld to gain allies, defeat the Negativitron, and save the day!

Kid Safe: Very High
-          Foul Language: None
o   Little Big Planet 2 does not contain any foul language, instead favoring a soft-handed and comedic tone to the dialogue.

-          Violence and Gore: Very Low
o   Little Big Planet 2 features a very low level of violence with absolutely no gore. To begin, the characters that you are using in this title are akin to child's playthings; often made of sponge, cardboard, wood, paper, cloth, etc. The worst in the way of "gore" would be when a SackPerson steps on a bed of hot coals and bursts into a cloud of ash, only to be pop back into being a second later at an earlier part of the game-level.

o   On that same note, the worst violence that is perpetrated is when, facing an enemy, players must throw different objects at "weak points" on that enemy. This results in your opponent bursting into a pile of jelly that quickly disappears. Aside from that, players will also act as "fight pilot" of a "Bee 2.0", a robotic bee that fires honey "lasers".

-          Sexually-Related Content: None
o   Little Big Planet 2 does not contain any sexually-related content; only the unrequited love of Mr. Harry DaVinci.

-          Use of Drugs and Alcohol: None
o   Little Big Planet 2 does not contain any portrayal or usage of alcohol or drugs.

Game Quality: Very High
-          Graphics / Visuals: High
o   Little Big Planet 2 features a high level of graphics and visuals that is perpetrated primarily through how they present the world and the levels to the player. In short, every one of the 50+ levels is like an Dioramic piece of art. Each of the levels is pieced together using multiple objects and often placed in a regular, everyday setting; much like a child would create an imaginary world. Perhaps you will find yourself running through the front steps of a garden patio, jumping over slabs of concrete. Or maybe you will find yourself in the kitchen as you ride a runaway gingerbread train as it rushes away from a castle made entirely of cake. Maybe a dose of science fiction is more your taste, as you rush through the halls of a space station to get to "Giant Spaceship 1".

o    Real or surreal, Little Big Planet delivers this experience with pinpoint sharp visuals. The developers Media Molecule have taken precarious measures to insure that each material that appears, whether it be knitted-cloth, stretched leather, stone, etc., appears exactly how it should. Fabric textures are of specific note as SackPersons actually look exactly like a hand-knitted doll might look, each woven thread just jumping off of the screen. Lastly, this game can produce images at 720p HD settings, providing an even sharper image and really bring the world of Little Big Planet to life.

-          Audio: High
o   Little Big Planet 2 has a high level of quality when it comes to the audio and music in this game. In fact, the one thing that enchanted me most about this title what was the narration for this title; provided by noted English talent, Stephen Fry. Fry not only provides a soothing and excellent performance, but constantly adds little quips, jokes, and puns here and there that had me chuckling for hours.

o   Music was another excellent highlight of the audio performance in this game. Several dozen musical pieces are included in this title and tend to add an exquisite edge to each level that you are enjoying. I remember a racing level that featured a fascinating rock-and-roll song that had been mixed with a classical score to create a piece that had my blood pumping as a ran to the end. Yet another, a simple mini-game, was accompanied with a fun 8-bit track akin to music from older video games. Plus, all of this music is able to be collected and used when you create your own levels!

o   The only problem of note with the audio in Little Big Planet 2 is with everyone's voice acting ASIDE from Mr. Fry. There are several cutscenes here and there that feature fully-voiced characters and, to their credit, the actors did excellent jobs. However, about 90% of the time these characters are NOT speaking, but instead making some inane babbling noises while players read the text displayed. This babbling the most annoying and distracting bit in the entire game and had me wanting to get away from my allies whenever I was paired up with them.

-          Gameplay / Playability: Very High
o   Little Big Planet 2 has an extremely high level of gameplay and playability. First, the overall gameplay is phenomenal. The majority of the controls are very basic, akin to games like Super Mario Bros. or Donkey Kong, and therefore make it extremely simple to pick up and play. Likewise, any controls that are not as simple as "run to the right and jump on him" are also fully explained and even demonstrated.

o   Now, while gameplay is one thing, Little Big Planet 2 also prides itself on the ability for players to create their own levels; so how easy is that? The answer is: pretty easy (so long as you are creatively inclined, of course). While we recommend examining at least a couple of the tutorials before digging into the meat and potatoes of level-making, the controls are so simple and intuitive, not to mention displayed in an easy to understand manner, that level making was a breeze. Within an hour or so of sitting down to face the beast that I expected, I was already putting the finishing touches on my "Tarzen Tree Swinging Banana-za" level.

o   Now, you ask, what if the controls aren't so simple for me to pick up? What if I am not Little-Big-Planet inclined, you say? Little Big Planet 2, to my surprise, features several dozen tutorial levels that demonstrates literally everything you could want to know; from moving around the screen to building a fully automated, walking, talking robot. Every tutorial also demonstrates exactly what a player needs to do on the Playstation 3 remote and how that action will translate into the game. Players are also handsomely rewarded with items for every tutorial level they attend. Should players not need the level, they can still visit it, grab the items, and be off within seconds.

-          Dollar-Value: Very High
o   Little Big Planet 2 has a very high dollar-value, specifically in the ability to create and play other user-made levels. There are no limitations to the number of gameplay hours that are available to you. The single player story will last you roughly 8 hours of solid playtime, however this only serves as a means to demonstrate and collect items for use in your own levels. With a massive community of players all working on their own ideas, even if you managed to play EVERY one of the millions available, more would be there to enjoy by tomorrow. That said, this game isn't limited to a single player, the entire family can play! Up to four players are able to sit down together and enjoy everything that this game has to offer.

Recommendations
-          We highly recommend Little Big Planet 2. However, if you are looking for another platformer style game, we would recommend title such as Super Mario Bros. New or Donkey Kong Country Returns. Likewise, if you are wanting a game with more user-created content, we might recommend a title such as Minecraft or Starcraft 2.

Dead Rising 2

Dead Rising 2 Review

Kid Safe: Low   Game Quality: Moderate

Genre: Open-World Survival Horror
-          This game takes place in a world where choice is everything. Rather than providing a set story that a player has to follow, they are provided a world that they can explore and do as they wish. This game features a focus on horror themes and attempting to escape the terror that has overtaken the situation. This game may contain situations that are scary for some players.

Internet Requirements: Moderate
-          This game features a moderate amount of internet usage. While it does have a good deal of offline content that can be played without internet connection; this title also offers plenty of online content which includes a multiplayer-mode where players may compete against each other or play together to complete the main story.

Story Summary: Dead Rising 2 takes place in Fortune City, NV, a fictional city built around gambling,
casinos, and entertainment; akin to places like Las Vegas, NV or Reno, NV. The main
character is Chuck Greene, an ex-motocross rider who, after having lost his wife and
nearly lost his daughter in a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, now competes in the
gruesome reality game-show “Terror Is Reality” to earn money. During a filming
however, the zombies that are the focus of the game-show are released upon the city,
wreaking havoc and killing many; as well as framing Chuck Greene for the catastrophe.
Greene now has 72 hours to battle the creatures, clear his good name, and save as many
lives as he can before the military arrives to tie up any loose ends.

Kid Safe: Low
-          Foul Language: Low
o   This game features a low amount of foul language including d*mn, s*it, b*tch, and a*s. These words tend to be used sparingly and no single character demonstrates an excessive amount of cursing. Generally, this foul language is also used realistically; portraying scenes of actual anger or dismay rather than being used excessively for no real apparent reason. The only really questionable language falls under the large presence of sexual references made by a number of characters in game (which are covered under Sexual Content below).

-          Violence and Gore: Very High – Not Recommended for Children
o   This game features an excessive amount of blood, gore, and violence and is the primary focus of the entire title. Players are able to act violently against both living humans and zombie creatures alike and they are encouraged to use literally any and all items that are available to them to do so. With over a hundred possibilities available, items can be anything from traditional weapons such as firearms, knives, grenades to household items such a scissors, brooms, and hammers. Likewise, individuals are encouraged to combine items to make them even more deadly, such as a traditional water pistol converted to use gasoline and spray fire at enemies.
o   Aside from the encouragement of violence, players witness an incredible amount of gore that seemingly never stops. Zombies tend to act more as blood-filled targets than threats and many weapons will dismember, maim, and eviscerate them; sending bloodied chunks and pieces everywhere and even covering your character, Chuck Greene, in blood for a short amount of time. As well, when fighting any of the multitude of “Psychopaths” (live humans who have gone insane and become violent from the situation) in the game; upon defeating them these characters often suffer gruesome deaths such as a Chef who is burnt alive in his own deep-fryer or a protestor who slits his own throat with a piece of glass.

-          Sexually-Related Content: Moderate
o   This game features a fair amount of sexual content but does not feature any outright nudity. The majority of this content takes place in either pictures or sexual references in dialogue. To begin, there are posters and flyers scattered around Fortune City which are advertisements for Playboy Magazine. There are multiple versions of these posters and all of them feature scantily clad or mostly unclothed young women; however no genitalia or explicit areas are visible. Aside from that, multiple characters in the game make lewd comments and sexual references to each other in dialogue; some of the more predominant including a motocross biker asking Greene if he has “a hard on for him”, two female assassins asking if Greene would like to engage in “a threesome tonight” when going to attack him, and finally the name of a mini-game called “Master Shafter”.
o   There is a single exception to the previously mentioned examples in one scene featuring the two female assassins holding another young woman hostage in which one of the assassins gropes the hostage’s breast.
-          Use of Drugs and Alcohol: Low
o   This game features a low amount of drug or alcohol usage and that which does take place is almost predominantly alcohol usage. The game does not condone alcohol usage but in fact discourages it. Characters are able to pick up alcohol as a “healing” item which will restore a little health, but any excessive usage will result in Greene becoming sick and throwing up; encouraging players to use other healing items to avoid these malicious effects. On top of this, when Greene finds a survivor who has been drinking heavily, she is very sick and generally dislikable; once again discouraging the consumption of alcohol.

Game Quality: Moderate
-          Graphics / Visuals: Moderate
o   The graphics and visuals for this title are generally of a fair quality. While they are certainly not bad-looking and do not suffer from any major problems; they do not tend to impress given the high quality of the video game market today. Facial animations are strange and seem a bit off. Characters tend to seem a little like goldfish with their mouths simply opening and closing while they speak rather than showing distinct facial expressions. Likewise, other characters have shown virtual breaking as they attempt to show facial expression and parts of their face do things that really shouldn’t happen (like a man’s eyebrows seemingly dropping OFF of his actual brow and going in front of his eyes).
o   For some of the stranger problems that Dead Rising suffers, it most certainly has some impressive qualities, as well. As zombies are the primary focus of this title, Capcom did their job very well. Zombie creatures look impressively grotesque and rotted; very much how someone would expect a walking corpse to look. On top of this, the game has the ability to show literally hundreds of these creatures at once without any graphical problems at all. Finally, the design of Fortune City itself deserves special mention for the incredibly diverse and sprawling feel of the city; which, with its hundreds of different stores, restaurants, and locals, captures the charm of places like Las Vegas perfectly.

-          Audio: Moderate
o   The sounds and audio of the game are of a generally fair quality. Much like the graphics, while the sound quality and the music are not poorly done, they are equally insubstantial. The game offers decent musical accompaniment to almost every scene, with the score rising and falling with everything from soft almost-elevator music to hardcore rock music; adding a strong sense of tone and emotion to these scenes (most notably the "psychopath" battles). Likewise, the majority of cutscenes feature relatively decent voice acting that properly portrays the emotion and feeling of the situation. However, sadly, almost all voice acting taking place outside of cutscenes seems strange and forced; taking on an almost mechanical tone. Dozens of survivors have no more than several voices amongst them all and tend to speak the same lines despite the situation and Greene's rebuttals are equally flat-toned and simplistic.

-          Gameplay / Playability: High
o   This game features a relatively high quality of gameplay and playability. The controls are relatively simplistic and is well-rounded to encompass the usage of multiple items in a variety of situations. A player is able to easily switch from swinging a sledgehammer to targeting and firing a submachine gun to throwing a brick without any control difficulty. Likewise, onscreen displays help to easily point out items in the nearby area on top of showing what kind of item it is; such as whether it is a health item or maybe it can be used to make a combination weapon. Likewise, combination weapons are easy to do and figure out; boiling down to simply placing one item on a workbench and seeing what other item can be combined with it. All in all, the interface helped the game to be very enjoyable and simple.
o   On the flipside, however, there are two notable problems. The first is that, at the very beginning of the game, the controls are not explained and so you are not sure how to move or defend yourself. The main problem with this is the fact that the game starts you off in a fight where you must defend yourself immediately. The other problem is that the entire game constantly has a clock running in the background, counting down the 72 hours until the military arrives; making it extremely difficult to complete all of the tasks that pop up in game (which all also have timers attached to them).

-          Dollar-Value: High
o   This game is of a decently high dollar value. Even without any internet connection, you can easily get 12 to 15 hours of gameplay; and that is only on a single play through of the game when you need to play the game twice to fully experience everything there is to offer. On top of this, I personally spent hours absorbed just in the weapon combinations and seeing what I could create. Not only that, but the game also offers a decent amount of online content with more levels and story available for purchase and download. Finally, the game features two multiplayer modes. The first is the ability to play the entire story with a friend. The second is the ability to actually play Terror Is Reality, which is essentially a four-player set of mini-games that allows you to earn money that can then be transferred and used in the regular game. While the overall design of the game may be lackluster, this game still offers a strong bang for your buck.
